Groundbreaking collaboration will improve drug development and delivery through higher-quality data and analysis
Blue Spark Technologies is one of nine organizations joining Medidata’s expanded Sensor Cloud Network, which aims to overcome barriers limiting the full adoption of medical sensors––including data integration and standardization. This, in turn, could fuel the development of new digital biomarkers and more advanced algorithms to process healthcare data into actionable insights. The other eight organizations include AliveCor, Aural Analytics, Biobeat, Glooko, Indie Health, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Rochester, and the University of Vermont. Blue Spark will work alongside these hubs of health technology innovation, as each organization brings a unique product or approach to the fold.
TempTraq’s Role
As part of the collaboration, body temperature data from Blue Spark’s continuous temperature monitoring platform, TempTraq®, will be fed into the Sensor Cloud Network, providing researchers with access to constant, real-time human body temperature measurements alongside data from collaborators on a wealth of other health parameters.
TempTraq was chosen for the Sensor Cloud Network because it is comfortable, wireless, and precise. It is also fully HIPAA-compliant. Data from TempTraq will be accumulated by some organizations within the Sensor Cloud Network and integrated with data from others.
Work ongoing within the Sensor Cloud Network expands the breadth of the healthcare ecosystem. Among the organizations in this first-of-its-kind collaboration are contract research organizations, drug and vaccine developers, device manufacturers, academic institutions, and analytics companies. Together, they will gather patient data from clinical trials of devices and drugs that will be provided to data scientists for analysis. Data scientists can then use these large sets of real-world data when developing, refining, and delivering new, clinically meaningful algorithms. This sharing of data and expertise may improve healthcare through more effective treatments and better care for patients, for example, by producing algorithms that could better conduct clinical-grade speech analysis, analyze patient metabolisms, assess heart health, evaluate a patient’s gait, or evaluate fever profiles.
Data from our TempTraq patch will enter a continuum of healthcare data and research greater than the sum of its parts. By integrating the efforts of the Sensor Cloud Network, the insights drawn from our studies, devices, and algorithms may produce medical advancements with broad and long-lasting implications.
